This is my first attempt to create Vietnamese fonts. Please report any problem you may find in them. These fonts are originally created for the purpose of my project; that is why it is named Viet–Tang, just for convenience to name things in the world.
The ascii value of these fonts is based on VNI which means that you can import the text file from VNI and then just change the fonts, no need to convert.
With Viet-Tang keyboard file you don’t have to use shift or option (alt) for diacritics. However diacritics are needed to be typed before the vowel (just like dead key). They are all on the numeric keys: 1=accute, 2=grave, 3=?, 4=tild, 5=dot under, 6=circumflex a, 7=circumflex e, 8=cirumflex e, 9= breve a, 0=o with hook, -=u with hook, and +=crossed d.
In order to get these diacritics works you have to copy the keyboard file Viet-Tang to your System (inside the System Folder), and then change the keyboard every time you want to type Vietnamese.
For those who use system 7.x, you can make life easier by using ResEdit to tell the system show the keyboard panel beside the balloon help icon so that you can access the keyboard panel easily. (ResEdit is a very powerful utility. Be very very careful to use it, for it can modify your system entirely. Back up everything before you want to put your hand on ResEdit. Don't use ReSedit unless you know what you are doing.) With ResEdit, open System/itlc/48, click on button 1 of Always show (the default is off: button 0). Close, save your change and restart. That is it.
NiLienThuyen (Ni Lie^n Thuye^`) is the river Ni Lie^n (Nairanjana) in India. BoiDiep (Bo^'i Die^.p) is the leave of a kind of palm tree people used to record Buddhist texts in ancient time (but there is no spell checking like Microsoft Word does). LocUyen (Lo^.c Uye^?n) is an antelope garden in which the Buddha's first sermon was given.
